Next DA Hike: Latest AICPIN Data Signals 3% Increase for Central Government Employees from July 2026

The wait is almost over for millions of Central Government employees and pensioners. The Labour Bureau under the Ministry of Labour and Employment recently released the All-India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW) data for April 2026.

The latest index numbers have given a very clear direction of where the next Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) revision is heading, effective from July 1, 2026.

The Latest AICPIN Numbers

According to the official release, the April 2026 AICPI-IW increased by 0.8 points and stands at 149.9 (on a base year of 2016 = 100). This follows a steady upward trend over the last few months:

  • January 2026: 148.6
  • February 2026: 148.5
  • March 2026: 149.1
  • April 2026: 149.9

Year-on-year inflation for April 2026 stood at 4.46%, driven primarily by rising costs in the food, beverage, and fuel segments.

How This Impacts Your DA (The Math Explained)

DA revisions under the 7th Pay Commission are calculated based on a 12-month moving average of the AICPI-IW.

The central government previously announced a 2% hike for January 2026, bringing the current DA level to 60% of basic pay. Looking at the index accumulation from July 2025 through April 2026, the 12-month average is trending to hit roughly 148.61.

When fed into the official 7th CPC formula, the exact percentage works out to roughly 63.72%. Because the government rounds down decimal figures to the nearest whole number, this locks in a highly probable 3% hike, which will push the total DA up to 63%. – Check DA Calculator

Is it “confirmed”?

Technically, the numbers for May and June 2026 are still needed to round out the 12-month cycle completely. However, the trend is so stable that it would take an unprecedented, massive drop in inflation over the next 60 days to pull the average down below the 3% threshold. Consider a 3% increase practically guaranteed.

What a 3% Hike Means for Salaries

To make it real, here is how a 3% DA bump affects a standard Central Government worker’s monthly pay using a Level 5 employee as an example:

For higher pay bands, the monthly net increase will scale up proportionally.

Timeline to Payout

While the hike is effective from July 1, 2026, the official Union Cabinet clearance chaired by the Prime Minister typically comes around September or October. Once approved, employees and pensioners will receive the enhanced amount in their autumn salaries alongside retroactive arrears for July and August.

The next two AICPIN releases (for May and June data) will be finalized by the end of July, putting the final stamp on these numbers.

Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (2016=100) – April, 2026

1. Labour Bureau, an attached office of the M/o Labour & Employment, has been compiling Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers every month on the basis of retail prices collected from 317 markets spread over 88 industrially important centres in the country. The index for the month of April, 2026 is being released in this press release.

2. The All-India CPI-IW for April, 2026 increased by 0.8 points and stood at 149.9 points (one hundred forty-nine point nine).

Subject: Procedure for submission and processing of Children Education Allowance (CEA) claims in APT 2.0.

The undersigned is directed to say that CEPT has developed a functionality in APT 2.0 for online submission and processing of Children Education Allowance (CEA) claims, including payment functionality.

2. The matter regarding submission and processing of CEA claims through APT 2.0 has been examined in consultation with CEPT through the Technology Division. It has been informed that APT 2.0 provides a digital framework for submission, verification, approval and payment of CEA claims, including uploading of supporting documents and system-based checks.

3. The Technology Division has also provided a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for submission and processing of CEA claims through APT 2.0.

4. It has been decided that submission of CEA claims through APT 2.0 shall be mandatory. However, physical copies of claims along with supporting documents shall also continue to be submitted for verification and record purposes.

5. Accordingly, the following instructions are issued:

(i) All CEA claims shall be mandatorily submitted online through APT 2.0.

(ii) Employees shall also submit physical copies of the claim along with supporting documents to the concerned office/DDO.

(iii) The existing DoPT-prescribed format for CEA claims shall continue to be followed for submission of physical claims.

(iv) The SOP provided by CEPT is enclosed for guidance and compliance.

6. This issues with the approval of the competent authority.

The undersigned is directed to say that the holiday on account of Id-ul-Zuha (Bakrid) was notified for 27th May, 2026, in the list of holidays for the year 2026 circulated vide this Ministry’s O.M.No.12/2/2023-JCA dated 3rd July, 2025, subject to change in date, depending on the sighting of the moon. It has now been brought to the notice of this Ministry that, in Delhi, Id-ul-Zuha (Bakrid) will be celebrated on 28th May, 2026.

2. Accordingly, it has been decided to shift the holiday on account of Id-ul- Zuha (Bakrid) to 28th May, 2026 in place of 27th May. 2026 as notified earlier, for all Central Government administrative offices in Delhi/New Delhi.

3. For Offices outside Delhi / New Delhi, the Central Government Employees Coordination Committees or Head of Offices (where such Committees are not functioning) can decide the date, depending upon the decision of the concerned State Government.

Subject: Regarding option for Central Government employees to avail medical facilities either for their Parents or Parents-in-law under CGHS and CS(MA) Rules, 1944.

The undersigned is directed to refer to this Ministry’s OM No. 4(1)-18/63-H dated 03.03.1987 and OM No. H.11020/2/2023-EHS dated 26.07.2023 (copy enclosed), vide which the facility to choose either parents or parents-in-law as dependent family members for the purpose of availing medical facilities under CGHS was made available to eligible Central Government employees.

2.Attention is also invited to this Ministry’s OM No. S.14025/15/2024-EHS dated 28.03.2024 (copy enclosed) whereby the aforesaid facility was extended to beneficiaries covered under Central Services (Medical Attendance) Rules, 1944 [CS(MA) Rules, 1944], at par with CGHS beneficiaries.

3. In continuation of the above, it is hereby re-iterated that the aforesaid provisions shall be applicable to all eligible beneficiaries covered under CGHS as well as CS(MA) Rules, 1944, subject to fulfilment of prescribed dependency and other eligibility conditions under the respective rules/scheme.

4. It is further clarified that a male Government employee shall be eligible to exercise a one-time option only for choosing either his parents or parents-in-law as dependent family members for the purpose of availing medical facilities under CGHS/CS(MA) Rules, 1944.

5. Once such option has been exercised in favour of parents, the employee shall not subsequently be permitted to opt for parents-in-law as dependents at a later stage, including in cases arising due to demise of parents or otherwise. Similarly, where option has once been exercised in favour of parents-in-law, the same shall not subsequently be changed in favour of parents.

6. All Ministries/Departments are requested to bring the contents of this OM to the notice of all concerned for strict compliance.
