In a major welfare decision, the Assam Cabinet has approved a 2-percentage-point increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for state government personnel. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma following a cabinet meeting.
The decision provides immediate financial relief to families of the state workforce to help counter inflationary pressures.
Key Details of the Revision:
- The New Rate: The DA/DR rate has been raised from 58% to 60% of the basic pay/pension.
- Effective Date: The hike comes into effect immediately (June 2026).
- Total Beneficiaries: More than 8 lakh individuals across the state will benefit from this increase.
Who is Covered?

- Compassionate family pensioners.
This timely upward revision aligns the state’s allowance structure with current economic demands, ensuring vital financial support for both serving and retired public servants.
