Fixed Children Education Allowance Revised to ₹2812.50 and Hostel Subsidy to ₹8437.50: New DoPT Order Issued
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has issued a crucial fresh corrigendum (No. A-27012/01/2023-Pers. Policy(AL)) dated June 30, 2026, to clarify and rectify the exact calculation framework for the Children Education Allowance (CEA) and Hostel Subsidy.
This notification comes as a vital follow-up to the previous enhancement of Dearness Allowance (DA), which automatically triggers a 25% increase in various allowances once specified thresholds are crossed. To clear up any administrative confusion regarding the exact decimal conversions and fixed figures, the DoPT has re-issued the definitive text for ministries to process claims.
Comprehensive Breakdown of Revised Rates:
- Children Education Allowance (CEA): The reimbursement amount is now officially locked at ₹2,812.50 per month (fixed) per child. Government employees can claim this exact amount irrespective of the actual school fees or expenses incurred for the child’s studies.
- Hostel Subsidy: The ceiling for the reimbursement of Hostel Subsidy is now officially fixed at ₹8,437.50 per month per child. Unlike the standard CEA, the hostel component will be reimbursed based on either the actual expenditure incurred by the employee on boarding and lodging or the ₹8,437.50 cap—whichever of the two is lower.
What Remains Unchanged?
The DoPT has explicitly confirmed that all other fundamental terms, conditions, and eligibility criteria originally mandated in the foundational Office Memorandums dated 17.07.2018 and 25.04.2024 remain fully active and unchanged. This includes limits on the number of children eligible (restricted to the two eldest surviving children) and the standard documentation required for drawing the allowance.

CORRIGENDUM
Subject: Revision of rates of Children Education Allowance (CEA) and Hostel Subsidy consequent upon enhancement of Dearness Allowance- reg.
Reference is invited to this Department’s O.M. of even number dated 25.04.2024 regarding revision of rates of Children Education Allowance (CEA) and Hostel Subsidy consequent upon enhancement of Dearness Allowance.
2. In this connection the Para 2(a) of the aforesaid O.M. dated 25.04.2024 may be read as under: –
“The amount for reimbursement of Children Education Allowance shall be 2,812.50 per month (fixed) per child, irrespective of actual expenses incurred by the Govt employee. The reimbursement of Hostel Subsidy per child shall be 8,437.50 per month or the actual expenditure incurred on boarding and lodging, whichever is lower.”
3. All other terms and conditions contained in this Department’s O.M. dated 17.07.2018 and O.M. dated 25.04.2024 shall remain unchanged.
